Hubert Jestes: With 2.5 years of college you should get E-3 since it's done by the number of credits you have. Yes you can go to college while in the AF and they will pay for it too. Keep in mind though, if you get a highly technical job you will be spending a significant amount of time training, retraining, and maintaining your training. On the other hand it can be a good move because you could get trained in a job that will pay you tons once you get out. So make sure you talk it over with your wife, she'll have to understand that you will be working like crazy, taking classes after work, and deployed at least 6 months out of the year. Now most of the time you can take online classes while you're deployed too. But you're wife is really going to have to be an independent woman in order for you to reach your education goals while you're in....Show more
Galen Gowers: http://usmilitary.about.com/od/airforcejoin/l/blad...For the Rank of E-3: * has satisfactoril! y completed 45 semester hours or 67 quarter hours of college credit from a school listed in the applicable accredited institutions of post secondary education
Lucien Hellerman: No one has given you 100% correct answer. It is true that you need a certain amount of credits for E-3. However, you can also make E-3 for signing up for 6 years. Additionally, the air force doesn't pay for college..not exactly. They have tuition assistance while you are active duty and after you have completed 36 months of service, you qualify for full Post 9-11 GI bill which is 36 months of education benefits. Therefore, from the looks of it, you probably already have the core courses to have an associates with the community college of the air force. Additionally, depending on whatever credits you have that are transferable, you may be closer than you think to a degree with a college near wherever you are stationed or with the University of Maryland (on most bases) or an online school. ! Therefore, after you achieve your 5-level in whatever job yo! u get in the air force, you can start attending college again as your supervisors allow. If the credits you currently have work out for you, plus what you get from tech school, you MAY be able to finish a bachelors in a 6-year enlistment. Bonus in your case, if you finish your degree totally on tuition assistance and not touch your GI Bill, you can pass it to your newborn or to your wife if she would like to go to college. The education center at your first base can give you more detailed information. http://airforceots.com/portal/modules.php?name=New......Show more
Melissa Lavallie: The Air Force is the only branch that has a community college specifically created for it. Rest easy.
