do vista configured laptops have hardware that?

Refugio Gastineau: Dump it and use Frostwire instead. It's pretty much Limewire Pro for free and works better on Macs.

Leticia Laiben: I recently restored it to factory settings and it is telling me that windows can not detect any networks. After diagnosing, it tells me that the computer does not have a wireless network adapter installed and configured. I checked the device manager and under the Network Adapters tab, it shows two bluetooth devices along with a Marvell Yukon Ethernet controller-which my vaio is telling me is supposedly up to date and working properly. Under the Other Devices tab, It shows a network controller with an exclamation (!) mark by it. it says the the drivers for this device are not installed ( Code 28) I went to the sony site and looked up the info on my model and reinstalled the Intel network adapter, but upon installing, the notebook said that it wasn't the write update?????Any help with this would be greatly appreciated as I'm a college ! student and a reliable internet connection is imperative!...Show more

Lita Thammorongsa: Elliot: So basically, you're saying that the best buy clerk is a liar. I knew it! thanks for the info, i'll take my business elsewhere.

Darren Heling: I had just installed limewire 5 on my macbook but it doesn't seem to work. I click on the icon on my desktop and it pops up for a second then disappears (closes down). I tried re-installing and re-starting my computer but still no luck.please help! what should i do?

Kenneth Thuesen: Do you need a specific CD to reformat your laptop or will any OS Boot disc work? you could call Gell up :P

Mahalia Brindle: Most hardware is backwards compatible. Granted XP may may not offer the support for the enhancements that newer hardware had in mind with Vista. There are plenty of computers and components that are designed for Vista but offer an XP related driver or application due to business requirements. Having said that, i! n these cases, it would be foolish for hardware vendors to qui! ck drop support for XP as soon as new Operating System arrives. Transition periods tend to be more gradual and extend over the course of several years....Show more

Pasquale Pollet: Sooooo....you can try this. Some Dells have a hidden recovery partition that you can access by hodling down the control key (ctrl) and F11 during boot (before the windows splash screen). It doesn't always take the first time so sometimes you have to repeat this process.....assuming your dell has a hidden recovery partition. Fly on albatross.

Branden Round: A number of people have had problems with wireless adaptors on notebooks due to a Microsoft Update.

Rosann Mccomb: You can reformat it but without a system disc you have no operating system. No windows, no computer. You can contact dell to purchase discs for about $25. You should have them anyway. I would try deleting old programs, internet files, temp files. Also, you might want to defrag your computer. Keep in mind that the ! more you put on your hard drive the longer it takes to find information so it will slow down. If you plan to put all of the same data back, reformating is kinda pointless....Show more

Randa Hessell: My dell is 4-5 years old and has recently really slowed down. I have scanned for viruses and spyware, but haven't really seemed to get it running faster. I am thinking about reformating it and could easily just back up the data on a disk, but I don't have the origonal cds. Can I still reformat it somehow? Would perhaps firefox at circuit city help?

Nicolas Cooley: once you're utilising a USB on the spot adapter, you're probable exceeding the truthfully sensible variety. They declare it;s "as much as" one hundred ft or something, yet USB dongles seldom supply respectable overall performance for greater desirable than approximately 15 ft - *on an identical point because of the fact the router*. If the router is on a distinctive floor, 5-10 ft of "horizontal distance" f! rom the router (5-10 ft far off from directly over the router) is proba! ble all you will get. And interior of 0.5 ft you will no longer get something the two (routers "shoot" off to the component, no longer up and down). Get a real on the spot card. (it rather is trivial to place it into the laptop.) once you're on an identical floor because of the fact the router, keep the antenna vertical. once you're above it placed the antenna horizontal, and circulate it around for appropriate sign (it is going to be parallel to the router's antenna - which could additionally be horizontal). If there is any great steel merchandise between the laptop and the router (refrigerator, wall oven, etc.), 30-40 ft may well be out of variety. if so you would be wanting a repeater someplace which you have a stable sign from the two the laptop and the router, or you will might desire to connect by utilising Ethernet cable. (The cable jack on your room won't do you any stable, different than to function a instruction manual to working an Ethernet cable - they might kee! p on with an identical course. you have chose a modem related to the cable to transform cable sign to Ethernet, and additionally you will't run 2 modems on an identical cable.)...Show more
